De eerste clip verwijst naar de spiegelsc\u00e8ne aan het slot van Welles&#8217; <em>The Lady from Shanghai<\/em> (1947), onmiddellijk gevolgd door de rioolsc\u00e8ne uit <em>The Third Man<\/em> (1949) met de lange schaduwen. De derde clip verwijst naar de slotsc\u00e8ne van dezelfde film, waarin Anna (Alida Valli) naar Joseph Cotton en naar de camera loopt, maar aan beiden voorbijgaat.<\/p>\n<p>Maar waarom uitgerekend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cornetsdegroot.com\/rearwindow\/2019\/01\/14\/in-weerwil-van-alle-tegenwind\/\" target=\"_blank\">Welles<\/a> in The Departed? De meeste personages spelen dubbele rollen en hebben &#8216;zichzelf&#8217; verlaten, of tonen verschillende versies van zichzelf: dat zie je terug in de spiegelsc\u00e8ne en in de op de muur geprojecteerde schaduwen van hun eerdere zelven die hen achtervolgen.
