Apropos

No Autonomy

Nederlandse versie

A concept that interjects itself wherever it sees fit--apropos and mal-à-propos--without ever letting itself be fixed may cause one to become roiled at some point. After all, what kind of fugitive behavior is this that allows it to take on this metaphysical status?

Apropos itself is indeed just as powerless as God. It only indicates a principle, and it is not capable of doing anything without an acting subject. However, Apropos only functions when the subject undoes the autonomy of Apropos, that is, when it enters into a relation with Apropos. This principle harbors an imperative that would be just as mandatory as once was the obedience to God, only now in reverse.

In the end, it is not about Apropos. As with all principles, one should not let oneself be hindered by Apropos. One can only get a hold of Apropos when one gets a hold of oneself.
